BEAUTY BLOSSOMS OUT OF DECAY

BUILDING ON THE “NOT SO PERFECT LOVE STORY” THAT INSPIRES EYTYS SPRING/SUMMER 23, LN-CC TRANSPORTS THE COLLECTION INSIDE A DIGITAL DYSTOPIA AND FINDS NEW LIFE EVOLVING OUT OF DECAY.

“Life, uh, finds a way” is the profound, yet much memed, quote uttered by Jeff Goldblum’s character in the 1993 science fiction adventure, Jurassic Park, that fits the mood perfectly for EYTYS this season. “Life breaks free – it expands to new territories and it crashes through barriers painfully, maybe even dangerously,” he continued. While Goldblum’s Dr Ian Malcolm was reacting to the birth of a baby velociraptor and discussing lessons from the history of evolution, the independent Stockholm-based fashion house was inspired by another iconic 90s moment, the acrimonious Britpop love triangle between Suede’s Brett Anderson, Elastica’s Justine Frischman, and Blur’s Damon Albarn. Out of broken hearts and feuding frontmen, bands shapeshifted, sounds evolved and new possibilities were unlocked.

“Marry glamour with garbage, pause and juxtapose. This collection is a pierced rose, bleached poshness. Mess up, but keep your head and heels high in a laddish preppy look where you borrow your boyfriend, or your girlfriend’s, T-shirt because there is no time to go home between yesterday and tonight. Merge ballroom and workwear with the new pumped-up squared toe office derbies. It’s about carelessness and accuracy, punk and discipline, feeling cute but might delete later. EYTYS spring/summer 2023 is the adoration for the not so perfect love story that we all adore.”

From the moment it was founded by childhood friends Jonathan Hirschfeld and Max Schiller in 2013, EYTYS has found its ways by cultivating its own path. Since their first confident steps in its unisex canvas Mother sneakers, Hirschfeld and Schiller have quietly disrupted footwear, denim and ready-to-wear by reimagining 80s and 90s references for tomorrow’s world.  Borrowing its name from the biography of David Barnett and soundtracked by the romance and heartbreak, desire and hatred, even angst and ecstasy of Anderson, Frischman and Albarn, Love & Poison provides the perfect wardrobe to find love and live life. Inspired, LN-CC enlisted West Yorkshire-based creative Carla Batley to digitally reimagine these objects of desire morphing out of an ominous landscape.

“This is an ever-evolving world; a world that continually adapts as time passes. As the animation develops, we see the world evolve from an isolated, bleak environment to a bright nature-filled landscape. I hope that the viewers take away a sense of beauty emerging from destruction.”

As life finds a way, embrace its dualities and look good falling in and out of love with EYTYS…
