Graphic driven and easy to wear, Stüssy has been a purveyor of the streetwear uniform – pants, sweatshirts, T-shirts, jackets and hats – for 40 years. Born from the youth surf scene of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s in Southern California, Stüssy is assembled around community, with the International Stüssy Tribe having grown out of the insular collective of skaters, surfers and DJs that initially embraced the brand. Collaborators and muses as much as they are consumers, the Stüssy network is recognisable by the label’s clean lines, sophisticated prints, practical materials and scrawled signature-like logo that began life on screen-printed T-shirts used to market Shawn Stüssy’s fledgling hand-shaped surfboard business.
