Melissa has been transforming plastic into footwear since 1979, when Brazilian brothers Alexandre and Pedro Grendene Bartelle took inspiration from the shoes worn by fishermen on the French Riviera. The trademark jelly-like shoes have always prioritised durability, comfort and sustainability. Melissa’s instantly recognisable finish and distinct tutti-fruity scent is owed to Melflex®, a patented PVC made from 100% recycled materials. Despite more than 30 years of shoemaking, the brand continues to take an expansive approach to design with a plethora of collaborative collections, starting with Jean-Paul Gaultier in 1983. Since then, Melissa’s partners have included Y/Project, Collina Strada and Simon Miller.
