ADIDAS ORIGINALS BY SPZL PRE-SPRING 2024  

This year marks a decade since the inception of adidas Originals by SPZL. Commemorating this significant milestone, adidas Spezial curator Gary Aspden and the three stripes team navigate through the label's history, present, and future—their latest collection telling the timeless story of adidas’ design DNA, reinvented. 

The first chapter of the collection is brought to life by a captivating campaign film starring actor and musician Ashley Walters, renowned for his roles in "Top Boy" and "Bulletproof". Dynamic, iconic, matter of fact—the film and stills perfectly capture the energy of the drop.

The footwear line-up comprises seven distinctive silhouettes. First up, the Gazelle SPZL from Fall/Winter 2023 returns in two iterations: one with an all-black suede upper, reminiscent of the Pulsebeat SPZL, while the other features a chalk white denim upper with subtly contrasting white stripes.  

Introducing three new additions to the Spezial roster, the Whitworth SPZL draws inspiration from various 80s runners, with a colour palette which takes its cues from the vintage adidas clipper. Constructed with a suede, nylon, and mesh upper, it incorporates reflective accents on the heel and tongue. The Handball Pro SPZL pays homage to a lesser known adidas handball silhouette, which is then reimagined atop a rubber gum cupsole and presented in a classic blue colourway. Completing the trio of new trainers, the Moston Super SPZL takes cues from the mid-70s adidas Artic, featuring a suede green upper with vibrant green stripes and contrast stitching. 

The selection is further enriched by the return of two classic Spezial silhouettes. Making its debut in 2017, the cult favourite Wensley SPZL boasts an asymmetrical upper with nylon underlays and hairy suede overlays. For the label’s 10th anniversary, the silhouette receives a fresh light brown colourway and an updated padded tongue. Meanwhile, the adilette SPZL, infuses the classic slip-on look with Spezial’s distinct identity. 

Shifting gears from footwear to apparel and accessories, adidas Originals by SPZL’s  Spring/Summer 2024 collection showcases a selection of meticulously curated looks. At the forefront is the already iconic Todmorden Smock, first released in Spring/Summer 2021 to instant acclaim, now returning in two captivating colorways: navy and white. A commemorative 10th anniversary Mod Trefoil tee brings the Spezial spirit to life as a certified collectors item.   

Two lightweight jackets—the Trentham and the Wingrove—constitute perfect spring layering options, while the matching Angelzarke track top and track pants are adorned with signature Spezial details. The apparel offering is then rounded out by the Rossendale Short, a Polo shirt, and the Lytham tee. In the realm of accessories, the edit includes the versatile Brinscall bag, a Mod Trefoil cap, a two-pack of socks, and a Mod Trefoil towel.
