A CONSCIOUS EXPLORATION
FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2024, JIL SANDER DEFINES A WARDROBE THAT EXHORTS EVOLUTION AND A DESIRE FOR CHANGE.
Lucie and Luke Meier play with the archetypes of womenswear and menswear for Spring/Summer 2024 – seamlessly intertwining the mundane with the virtues of couture in both form and material. The husband-and-wife duo consciously blend various references and elements; exploring the possibilities that emerge from fusing tailoring with the technical, feminine aesthetics with the masculine, and daywear with the allure of glamour.
Traditional craftsmanship and industrial construction come together to reflect an eclectic, mobile, and technical era with a forward-looking perspective. This flawless fusion embraces innovation, offering a collection that is light, elegant, and most of all, disruptive. Each piece overhauls classic garments—coats, dresses, jackets, and trenches—transforming them into a polished and elevated contemporary language for today. Pure, sculptural forms evolve into shifted, substantial silhouettes, embodying modernity and sophistication.
Tapered dresses are meticulously crafted, featuring ingeniously sewn spiralled stripes of delicate cotton-silk that are intricately joined by broderie anglaise. Thin, rectangular paillettes adorn tapered tops and long dresses, adding movement and a subtle crackling sound. The collection highlights the diversity and exceptional quality of materials—each renowned for its fluidity and lightness—artfully selected to subtly emphasise movement and the body.
Spring/Summer 2024 continues with the new editions of Jil Sander's signature bags and leather accessories which further enhance the collection's elegance, while also introducing new tactile elements. Men's shoes feature woven and moccasin construction set upon sturdy leather outsoles and women's boots are adorned with pointed or square toes.
The predominantly solid colour scheme accentuates references to sartorial archetypes woven throughout the collection, reflecting the Meiers' ongoing commitment to overturn and elevate the ordinary. White, cream, purple-brown, dark blue, and black complement traditional outerwear hues, alongside sand, light olive green, grey-brown, grey, taupe, blue-grey, and a sand and stone wool melange. Vibrant shades of pink, charged green, lemon, and orange punctuate the colour palette.
